What type of running shoes are acceptable?
All NFL Combine workouts will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium, the home of the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts have installed a state of the art playing surface known as “Hellas’ Matrix Helix Turf”, a synthetic turf system that has environmentally friendly organic infill and a shock pad designed with safety in mind. A section of the actual turf from Lucas Oil Stadium will be installed in the Combine Performance Center (CPC) and the exact start lines/running lane used at the Combine will be painted on this turf. All prospects will have access to this turf to work on their starts and sprints in the days leading up to their workout inside the stadium. Additionally, prospects can invite their trainers/speed coaches to be credentialed for this space to work with them in the CPC. We strongly suggest finding a similar surface near you where you can test to see which shoe you prefer to use when running your 40-yard dash, shuttles and participating in the position skill drills.
You are allowed to use any tennis shoe or approved football cleat. Any footwear worn by participants must be an NFL approved on field licensed product. Track spikes, metal spikes or elements similar to a track spike will NOT be allowed. Non-licensed footwear may be worn; however, unless otherwise approved by the NFL such footwear cannot be commercially identifiable. You may want to bring more than one type of shoe to ensure you are as comfortable as possible.
